Can this patient walk after surgery?

A patient has a tumour in his knee area. The surgeon has to remove the tumour which is accompanied with resection of the knee joint and some muscle tissue. The resected knee joint is replaced by a massive prosthesis. However, whether this procedure will result in a functional knee joint also depends on the amount of muscle tissue that is removed and the way the surgeon can compensate for this by transposing other (healthy) muscles. In this project we develop software tools which allows the surgeon to pre-operatively assess how to operate on the patient to obtain the best functionality.
